Family Homestead of George Lardner and Catherine (Kate) Brooks (**, ***, ****):

The family homestead of George Lardner can be documented in the Tithe Applotment Books, the Landed Court Estates records and Griffith's Valuation for the Townland of Shessiv / Shessive, parish of Killadysert.

The first mention from these records can be found in the 1825 Tithe Applotment entry for Shesive where George Lardner's name appears alongside John Brooks and Pat Kelly as tenants on 61 acre plot of taxed land.

Per the Mar-May 1855 Landed Court Estate records for George Lardner, Mr. Lardner agreed to lease approximately twenty-nine acres of land from Edward Spaight Ferriter for thirty-one years from 1st May 1824 or "life of lessee the present tenant aged above 60 years."  The lease was signed on 22nd Oct 1824.

In addition to the above mentioned twenty-nine acres, George Lardner also held eight more acres of land from a partition of a seventeen acre section that he shares with James Brooks, William Brooks and Peter Brooks.  This land however is not leased directly to him, instead it is leased to a Patrick McMahon from Edward Spaight Ferriter.

The description of the land per the Court's records is as follows:

"This Lot is situate on the road from Ballynacally to Kilrush, and with 3 miles of the Seaport and Post-Town of Kildysart, where the Steam Vessels plying between Limerick and Kilrush daily put in with and for Passengers, and 1 1/2 miles from the well known Fanny O'Dea's on the Ennis and Kilrush Mail Coach-road, where the Mail and other Public Cars are passing daily.  The Lands consist of light Tillage and Pasture capable of being much improved in value, by a moderate outlay on drainage.  This Lot affords, also, an abundant supply of Turf which the Tenants ship at Kildysart for Limerick in large quantities."

This land can also be referenced in the 1855 Griffith's Valuation entry for George Lardner and the corresponding Ordinance Survey a seen in the section of the ordinance map found below (Griffiths Valuation - OS).  Per Griffith's, George Lardner's leased a home and offices were located at 1g:

The final Landed Court Estates records entry can be found in the Aug-Dec 1864 volume.  George Lardner in this document is recorded as leasing approximately ten acres of land where he is, "..entitled to a lease for his own life on these terms and the purchaser is bound to grant such a lease at tenant's request and expense."
